Biography | Elena Beder, Romane Bouffioux, Anne Briset, Louis Delignon, Jeanne Larrouturou, , Till Lingenberg, Pascal Viglino artistic direction: Corentin Marillier, Dorian Fretto Eklekto is a contemporary percussion collective located in Geneva. Eklekto is constantly engaged in creative work, collaborating with contemporary composers and artists to present projects that reinvent percussion and listener’s expectations. Created under the visionary impetus of percussionist Pierre Métral in 1974, this ensemble of varying dimensions now works with more than 20 percussionists from the Leman lake region. Eklekto has commissioned some 100 percussion works by composers such as Ryoji Ikeda, Thomas Meadowcroft, Yoshihisa Taira, Stefano Gervasoni, Pierre Jodlowski, William Blank, Sven-Åke Johansson, Thomas Kessler and Billy Martin, and has performed with Fritz Hauser, Etienne Jaumet, Stefan Asbury, Arturo Tamayo, Synergy Percussion and Ensemble KNM Berlin. In its current projects, Eklekto is questioning the contemporary music concert format through proposals such as the «Words & Percussion» trilogy at Théâtre du Galpon from 2014 to 2016, the «Gamelan» concert at Festival Archipel 2015, and the «Discount» minimal concert-installation project with composer Thomas Meadowcroft and visual artist Florian Bach in Geneva in 2017. In 2006 Eklekto initiated the biennial Batteries! festival, dedicated to drums of all types. In 2022, Eklekto took up residence in Geneva’s new cultural project Les 6 toits (The 6 Rooftops) with the Ensemble Contrechamps, the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, and the Conservatoire populaire. Following in the footsteps of Steven Schick and Jean Geoffroy, and Alexandre Babel from 2013 to 2022, Eklekto has appointed as its Art Co-Directors Dorian Fretto, Corentin Marillier, and Yi-Ping Yang, who bring a collaborative and complementary approach to the Collectif’s artistic project. |
