| Biography | Eric Montalbetti is born in 1968. He lives and works in Paris. If he long kept his music secret, he now enjoys that his scores are coming to life and reach audiences thanks to wonderful performers. In 2019, Emmanuel Pahud and Jonathan Nott premiered the concerto «Memento vivere», «Les Dissonances», a string quartet, and he was invited by Lars Vogt as Composer in residence of the Spannungen Festival, where Christian Tetzlaff performed a new Duo with Alexander Vorontsov and the German premiere of a sonata for solo violin. In the same year, Montalbetti’s «Studies after Kandinsky» were played in Korea by François-Frédéric Guy (following its 2018 world premiere in the Amsterdam Muziekgebouw), and an orchestral piece was performed at Bucharest Enescu festival. Further commissions are scheduled with the Lemanic Modern Ensemble, Tokyo Sinfonietta, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France / Mikko Franck and Gürzenich Orchester / François-Xavier Roth. Montalbetti started composing at the age of 11, while studying piano and organ. He followed the courses with Pierre Boulez at IRCAM and at Collège de France, and studied with composers A. Bancquart, G. Benjamin, M. Levinas, M. Lindberg, Ph. Manoury, P. Méfano and T. Murail. From 1996 to 2014, he was the Artistic director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and chose to compose for himself as kind of a personal diary. Following a first CD album, «Solos - a personal diary in music», Alpha Classics released a new Chamber music CD in April 2020. His music is published by Durand / Universal Classical Music. |
