| Biography | ARTIST SONIC MATTER_VIDEO LOUNGE François Sarhan is a french composer, director and movie maker. He collaborated with several music ensembles (Mosaik, Modern, Intercontemporain, Recherche, Ictus) and festivals (Donaueschingen, Eclat, Musica, Automn in Warsaw, etc). He is currently working on an Encyclopaedia, series of books, films and shows made of invented academic material. He is based in Berlin. ABOUT THE WORK Aberwasistabermusik (2021) Ensemble Mosaik and I began working on a new project during the 2020 Covid lockdown, and it was clear from the start that we needed to come up with a format that would work without the direct presence of a group of people, but dematerialize the viewer into single individuals in front of their screens. We then agreed on a mixed format that would include a video and recorded music. While working on it, I found that the process was actually interesting enough to be incorporated into the final result. I then decided to include a making-off. But the material became more and more extensive, and a documentary would be a better term to describe it. I have to admit that I was far from expecting such content when I started. I would not generalize what I saw, nor would I draw exaggerated conclusions about the behavior and mentality of musicians in general, but I can say without hesitation that the anthropological dimension is as important as the musical one. Or are the two merged in such a way that our music, the "new music," cannot be separated from its anthropological strangeness? In any case, I hope that this experience will reveal a number of myths and mysteries that are attached to the musical milieu, at least in its essence and its realization process. |
