| Biography | Joan Jordi Oliver (*1994) is a saxophonist, composer and electronic musician born in Mallorca, Spain and based in Zurich, Switzerland. His multifaceted musical practice merges performance, composition, improvisation and electroacoustic elements into a very eclectic but individual musical expression. A permanent obsession with the rediscovery of the possibilities of his instrument, enhanced by the electronic medium, led him to sonic explorations that combine acoustic elements, synthesizer sounds and digital processes. His broad musical interests result in a work that rejects stylistic borders and craves its own identity at the intersection of ambient, minimalism, free improvisation, contemporary classical music and experimental electronica. Oliver works internationally as a freelance musician, with an intensive agenda both as a performer and as a composer. Additionally, he is also a teacher of Electronic Music at the Musikschule Konservatorium Zürich and at the Musikschule Weinfelden. His pedagogic role is complemented by his research activities at the Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology of the Zurich University of the Arts. Furthermore, he takes on the role of curator and organizer of the monthly concert series «Strom am Mittag», dedicated to experimental electronic music. ABOUT Joan Jordi Oliver: «Línies» «Línies» is a continuation of Joan Jordi Oliver’s permanent exploration of a personal electroacoustic world that combines the sound of the saxophone with the possibilities of real time digital processing and the sonority of synthesizers. A hybrid voice where these instrumental identities merge creates an ambiguous soundscape that is peaceful and welcoming at times, dense and asphyxiating at other times. Línies is conceived as a collection of interconnected pieces, with a duration that can expand up to a full 45’ set. The musical language that shapes these compositions also rejects stylistic borders, finding itself at the intersection of ambient, minimalism, drone and contemporary classical music. (The present audio is the recording of a live performance of the first track of the set. A studio-recording is planned for July and would replace the current file in case it would be considered for the presentation at Sonic Matter. A live performance on site is certainly a possibility, as the work is conceived as a concert piece and the artist is based in Zürich. Thank you for your time listening to Línies) |
