Biography | We Spoke is a Swiss-based experimental and contemporary music collective led today by pianist Gwen Rouger and percussionist Julien Annoni. The name «We Spoke» crosses the interjection «We speak» – a desire to explore the intricacies of today's music – and «bespoke», resonating with a wish to reveal them within the wider context of the performing arts. Inspired by the elegant and rigorous tradition of chamber music, the ensemble performs bold interpretations of modern pieces, collective creations and the contemporary repertoire. Since 2009, it has developed an eclectic catalog of productions, as well as partnerships with numerous composers, actors, artists, dancers, directors, and designers such as Hana Hartman, Simon Steen-Andersen, Fritz Hauser, Jessie Marino, Jacques Demierre, Christian Kesten, Simon LøUler, Pascal Auberson, Matthew Shlomowitz, Juliet Fraser, Mark Knoop, Ezko Kikouchi, Øyvind Torvund, Kevin Juillerat, Anne-Sylvie Henchoz, Tancredo Tavares (École Rudra-Béjart), Nefeli Skarmea, Martin Creed, Jean-Pierre Luminet and the biohacking laboratory Hackuarium. We Spoke has performed extensively in Switzerland, the UK, and South America, at festivals such as the Lucerne Festival, Hudderfield Contemporary Festival, Darmstadt Ferienkurse für neue Musik, Festival de la Cité à Lausanne, London Ear Festival, Firenze Suona Contemporanea, and Lima Contemporary Music Festival; and in concert halls and seasons such as Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich, Gare du Nord in Basel, Dampfzentrale in Bern, Le Bourg in Lausanne, Espace Forde in Geneva, Cité Universitaire in Paris, Unerhörte Musik in Berlin, SESC in São Paulo, Oi Futuro in Rio de Janeiro, Turner Sims in Southampton and Cafe OTO, Kings Place and the Royal College of Music in London. |
