Niga Salam Latif

Niga Salam is a Kurdish activist, artist, curator and photography instructor. Their work centres on addressing critical issues such as gender inequality, the environment, and identity. With a robust background in photography, Niga Salam skillfully captures and highlights societal complexities, blending artistic expression with advocacy. Beyond local engagements in curating exhibitions and programs, they have made significant international appearances, including residencies in Spain and participation in festivals across Germany, Lebanon, and the USA including at the United Nations.

Niga Salam's approach to art transcends mere aesthetics; it serves as a powerful tool for humanitarian advocacy and research, fostering connections and collaborations amongst marginalised communities. Their declaration that «Activism is an essential part of being an artist» reflects their philosophy of art as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue and societal transformation. Niga’s apporach to artistic expression to provoke questions rather than answer them.

Niga Salam is the curator of SONIC MATTER Festival 2025's Video Lounge «Rethreading Weaves».
