RADIOPHONIC MONDAYS with musician and visual artist Garth Erasmus (ZA) and sound- and media artist Abdellah M. Hassak (MA)

Garth Erasmus (music) and Jethro Louw (spoken word) take us to the history of their Khoisan ancestors, shedding light on Khoisan's brutal past and its impact on today's descendants. Louw's poetry, as well as the Installation Pieces Nr. 1 - 4 composed by Erasmus, were written explicitly for the exhibition Sand !Hū Sand, Aug. 20-Oct. 02, 2022, at Kunsthaus Hamburg. This RADIOPHONIC MONDAYS also presents earlier compositions by Erasmus.

Garth Erasmus and Jethro Louw are part of KHOI KHONNEXION, an artist collective from South Africa that advocates for "First Nation" rights through spoken word performances, indigenous music, and activist actions. Louw's poems are spoken in English.

The works of Moroccan artist Abdellah M. Hassak explore and reflect on the sonorities of places and cities and their social transformations.

ENTANGLED ECOLOGIES: Towards a speculative garden in 4 Chapters tell of human desires to control their environment. This sonic promenade takes us through conversations, chantings and street echoes in Marrakesh. It takes us towards a kaleidoscope of Marrakshis and Marrakshyat, telling their stories of Laarassi. These emblematic gardens of the ochre city were not only nzaha spaces but also sources of self-sufficiency, thanks to the small-scale agricultural practices that took place there. Through the promenade, Laarassi are told by different voices, in different formats. From it we hear Chapter 2 - Gardens and Ethics, in Arabic and French.

The composition Klangvorm Kinetik Sounds I - IV was commissioned by Klangvorm, Laurenskerk Rotterdam for the exhibition "Kinetik Sounds", September 2021. Hassak's composition responds to "Kinetic Sounds", a sound system specially made for the exhibition, consisting of a collection of rotating sound sources that together create immersive and dynamic sound fields.

Abdellah M. Hassak will be present at SONIC FESTIVAL 2022 with his performance project A Symphony of Cities.
