RADIOPHONIC MONDAYS FEATURES ARTISTS PRATYAY RAHA (IN) AND SINDHU THIRUMALAISAMY (IN)
Our listening journey takes us to densely populated cities and sonorous countrysides of India, home of the artists Pratyay Raha and Sindhu Thirumalaisamy. Raha engages intensively with indigenous communities, recounting their hopes, songs and prayers as in his audio-visual work "The Liminal Sense". His interest in the voice has further led him to experimental explorations of the relations between body, voice and movement. This has led to his collaboration with the dancer Lenka Puzova and their video work "Sound Body".
Thirumalaisamy work engages everyday spaces as sites of collective resistance and care. In her major work, the film "The Lake and The Lake" Thirumalaisamy takes the viewers to the shores of Bellandure Lake, which has suffered greatly from industrial influences. This Radiophonic Monday features an audio only version of the film. "Composition for Temple Speakers" is a captivating sound work that speaks to the emphasis, distortion, and collapse of sonic territories in and around the Kere Munishwara Sai Baba temple in Bangalore.
