Biography | SELECTED COMPOSER FOR THE 2021 SONIC MATTER_LISTENING LOUNGE Ali Balighi is an experimental composer. His works are mostly composed based on traditional and folk music of Iran. His main tendency is on micro-tonality and new perspective of instruments. Ali started his Bachelor in Music, with a major in Cello Performance, at the Art University of Tehran where he graduated with first-degree honor. His teachers and mentors include Hamidreza Dibazar (Dean of Faculty of Music at the Tehran University of Art), Sharif Lotfi (Former Dean of the Tehran University of Art), Mostafa Poortorab, Karim ghorbani (a well-known Iranian cellist), Majid Esmaeeli, Aidin Ahmadinejad, Keyan Emami and Maziar Heydari. He studied the basics of composition with Kiawash Saheb Nasagh and Mohammadreza Azin and has participated in composing master classes of Ahmad Pejman, Dimitri Papageorgiou and Joachim Heintze. He is a winner of numerous composition competitions, including The Iranian-Canadian Composers of Toronto (ICOT) and the Canadian Music Centre, Radio Javan (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting), Concoroso letterario, artistico e musicale Il Volo di Pegaso awards and Electroacoustic music composition competition Reza Korourian Awards. Also, he won a residency and a grant in The Saari Residence individual residencies for 2022 in Finland. His works have been performed at contemporary music festivals in Iran, Portugal, Finland, Belgium, Canada, the USA, Germany and Latvia. |
