| Biography | Martín Carvajal (*1984) is a young composer born in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina. He is currently completing his Bachelor's degree in Musical Composition at the Faculty of Arts of the National University of Córdoba. During his studies, Carvajal has worked as a student assistant in the Electroacoustic Techniques and Materials course. He has been part of the Media and Arts Research Group under the direction of Dr. Sergio Poblete, as well as the Center for Arts Production and Research (CePIA), where he worked on the project «Electroespacio Acústico» with Basilio Del Boca, Gustavo Alcaraz and Federico Ragessi. His interest in artistic production with electronic and digital media has led him to investigate the possibilities of new technologies applied to musical composition, sound manipulation and the creation of audiovisual works through gesture, as well as the production of works in multichannel systems. In terms of artistic production, Carvajal has composed works for various instrumental ensembles, and music with mixed technique and electroacoustic works in multichannel format, which have been premiered in several venues in Córdoba and Buenos Aires. His latest electroacoustic composition, «Mushihime», for quadraphonic system, was selected to represent Argentina at the 30th Art Audio Festival, in November 2022 in Krakow, Poland. ABOUT Martín Carvajal: «Mushihime» «To gaze at a solitary streetlamp in the deep of summer night and be dizzy by thousands of tiny figures swirling in the glare.» Mushihime arises from the observation of a swarm of different species of dragonflies, mayflies and beetles flying around of a streetlamp. The name of the work is taken from a Japanese manga and its meaning is «Insect Princess». |
