Mejor Sordo
Biography	Mejor Sordo is a noise and sound exploration duo born in 2022 in Zaragoza, formed by contemporary percussionist Luis Azcona and sound artist Joel Rico. Together they create a synergy of live electronics, noise, field recordings and ethereal atmospheres complemented by elements of post-instrumentalism. They incorporate drums and everyday objects transforming them through industrial techniques of sound exploration, ultimately infusing the sonic landscape with an evocative sense of dark spirituality. They believe the process of recording involves the act of rethinking the instrument to be used, the approach to it and the sonic qualities desired as outcome. Therefore, the duo releases their music through different volumes: self-produced EPs characterized by a unique conception and use of electronics and percussion. The aesthetics that Mejor Sordo creates is unconventional in appearance, and the objects they interact with may seem strange. In their performances, the line that separates electronics from percussion blends into an eclectic and riotous body. On the other hand, the character of their performance tends to swing from the serious and solemn to the humorous due to the sonority and interactivity with the listeners. ABOUT Mejor Sordo: «Tiesto» Tiesto, («Flowerpot», in the traditional Spanish language), is a sound art piece framed and inspired by the conceptual language of "LEAP". In our personal approach to this concept, we wanted to use the unpredictability of the physical medium to filter the electronic, intangible sounds: A covered ceramic pot is used to filter the sounds of the modular synthesis launched through a bluetooth speaker inside it. The rattling, the vibrations and the modeling of sound through ceramics puts in conversation the traditional with the modern, the artisanal with the industrial, the organic and the computerized: a way of embracing the hardly predictable, giving this piece of sound art an organicity produced also thanks to its live recording. Mejor Sordo, the duo of Spanish sound artists, navigates between noise, drone, free-impro and contemporary music, generating in this case a rich harmonic cushion whose spectrum is revealed through the covering and uncovering of the flowerpot.
