BiographyNguyễn Thanh Thủy is a leading performer and improviser on the Vietnamese zither đàn tranh, active in both traditional and experimental music. Over the past decade, she has focused on interdisciplinary and international projects that blend music, art, and performance, pushing the boundaries of cultural expression. Nguyễn Thanh Thủy is an artistic researcher with a focus on gender and migratory identity in post-colonial society. In her practice as artist and researcher, she has engaged with a wide range of fields, embracing migration studies, interculturality, gender studies and the musicologically driven study of musical gesture, but taken further through a gender perspective. She has published extensively as an academic author, often with a focus on the challenges and possibilities of intercultural collaboration.
Nguyễn Thanh Thủy has toured widely across Asia, Europe, and the United States, earning critical acclaim for her expressive and innovative style. In 1998, she was awarded First Prize and the Outstanding Traditional Music Performer Prize at the National Zither Talent Competition in Vietnam. Nguyễn Thanh Thủy has released several solo recordings and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras.
