| Biografie | Chin Ting Chan (*1986) ist ein in den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerkika lebender Komponist aus Hongkong. Er hält einen Doktortitel der University of Missouri-Kansas City sowie hat Abschlüsse gemacht an der Bowling Green State University und der San José State University. Derzeit ist er Assistant Professor für Komposition an der Ball State University. Chan war Stipendiat und Gastkomponist bei Festivals wie dem ManiFeste des Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics / Music, dem World Music Days Festival der International Society for Contemporary Music und dem UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers. Er hat mit Ensembles wie City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, Ensemble intercontemporain (Frankreich), Ensemble Metamorphosis (Serbien), dem Ensemble Signal (Vereinigte Staaten), eighth blackbird (Vereinigte Staaten), Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, Mivos Quartet (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika) und Rosetta Contemporary Ensemble (Japan) zusammengearbeitet und ist in mehr als 20 Ländern aufgetreten. Seine Aufnahmen sind auf über 15 Alben zu hören, und seine Partituren wurden von Babel Scores und Universal Edition veröffentlicht. ABOUT Chin Ting Chan: «Mirror Sculpture» The musical material of Mirror Sculpture comes from a variety of source, including recordings of analog camera clicks, a printer at work, glass shattering, piano strings, and different synthesis models. It plays on the ambiguities between the contextualization of sound material and the use of it purely as an abstract musical gesture completely disassociated with its physical origin, as described by Pierre Schaeffer’s definition of a «sound object» through the process of «reduced listening.» The music is inspired by over twenty years of observation on a Ficus tree. While its surrounding has changed dramatically, the tree remains vigorous and intact. This shows the impact of time on things at different pace. Our perception or memory of them can vary dynamically, transforming them into a mirror that reflects who we are at different times and stages of our lives. When we are able to adapt to our surrounding with an open mind and curiosity, we not only see a clearer image of ourselves from this mirror, but also through it. |
