| Biografie | Ernst van der Loo (*1974) ist ein niederländischer Komponist und Performer, der in Norwegen lebt. Er studierte Tontechnik und elektroakustische Komposition und Performance. Er erwarb einen Bachelor am Institut für Sonologie in Den Haag und einen Master an der Norwegischen Musikakademie in Oslo. Sein Hauptschaffensgebiet ist akusmatische räumliche Audiokomposition in Fixed-Media-Formaten. Er hat mehrere GPS-Soundwalks entwickelt und im Theater im Bereich Sounddesign gewirkt. Er ist Mitglied der Electric Audio Unit, die zusammen mit den Komponisten Mathieu Lacroix und Natasha Barrett Raumklangkonzerte in Norwegen organisiert. Seine Werke wurden auf internationalen Festivals wie Spatial Sound Arts (Seoul, Südkorea), Nordlysfestivalen (Tromsø, Norwegen), Only Connect Festival (Oslo, Norwegen), Klingt Gut (Hamburg, Deutschland), BEaST FEAST, (University of Birmingham, Vereinigtes Königreich), New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival (New York, Vereinigte Staaten), Wavefield Synthesis Festival (Den Haag, Niederlande), Immersive Sounds/Ars Electronica (Linz, Österreich), 40. 4 Sonic Summit 2023 (Boulder, Colorado, Vereinigte Staaten), Electric Edge Festival (Bærum, Norwegen) oder Tonband Festival (Göteborg, Schweden) gespielt. Im Dezember 2022 nahm er am Residenzprogramm des Elektronmusikstudio in Stockholm teil und wird im November 2023 eine Residenz am Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology in Zürich antreten. ABOUT Ernst van der Loo: «Mutations» «Mutations» is a new quadraphonic composition based on an older quadraphonic one. I created it 20 years ago while at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague. The original work was one of the first multichannel works I made. Since then my work methods have changed dramatically and I am employing very different methods of spatialisation in my current compositions. However, I recently found back a folder on an old harddrive with the original source materials for this 20 years old work. This «treasure trove discovery» triggered my idea to make a new work based on the same source materials. The original work’s sound materials are all synthetic and created at the analogue studio BEA 5 at Institute of Sonology, The Hague. Partly with help of Symbolic Sound's Kyma & Capybara at the same institute. The work is based on a rather rigorous transformation process that also steers the development of the work over time. This so called «family tree» composition method is inspired on the works of German composer Gottfried Michael Koenig between 1957 and 1969 (Essay, the Funktionen pieces and the Terminus pieces). NB! The sound file attached is a stereo version of the original composition from 2003. The final work that I will bring to the festival will be a different work but it will be based on the same sound materials. The duration will most likely be a bit shorter than the original composition from 2003. |
